Stand By Me was a VERY pivotal movie in my adolescence. The four of us had a sleep over when it came out on video. We wrote down on a secret ballot type of paper who we thought each of us were...Chris, Gordie, Teddy, Vern. It was funny that we all thought the same person was Chris and the rest of us were Gordie on our own vote. 3 of us pegged SRR as Verno. But of course not her. It stuck until high school was over for her. Haven't heard from her in years. 10 actually. Hmmm.

I think I thought of myself as Gordie because I was so close to JSK, our Chris. And the poor kid felt so alone except for when he shared life with Chris. I think so many of us go around thinking that they are so alone without realizing most other people feel that way too.

ok, so now I want to call all 3 of my "dynamic quartet" as one our dad's called us. Even Verno.

m.m.---aka Crazy Cat LadyMelmarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14454561659944660798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027105660999256483.post-10098227333288570062008-06-06T21:22:00.000-04:002008-06-06T21:22:00.000-04:00Wow, does this post take me back. When Stand By M...Wow, does this post take me back. When Stand By Me came out on video, my group of 4 had a sleep over and watched it. We then took a "secret" vote to see who every thought each other was like in the movie. I put the word secret in quotes because we all knew who said what, we knew each others handwriting so well from the thousands of notes we wrote each other during classes.

Anyway, we all said J was Chris and then the rest of us all thought we were Gordie. I still attest that I am the true Gordie. J and I are still uber close. Anyway, S was clearly Verno and we all called her that from then on. I haven't seen her in about 10 years....hmmm.

I guess we all identified with Gordie because we were all such followers of our Chris. But I think I identified with Gordie because he felt so alone. Isn't it sad that most of us go through life feeling that way without realizing that the rest of the world feels that way too.

Ok, I think I'm gonna go call the rest of my "dynamic quartet" as one of our dad's called us. I wonder where Verno is.....

"I ran all the way home...."Melmarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14454561659944660798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027105660999256483.post-64117552185393382782008-06-06T21:13:00.001-04:002008-06-06T21:13:00.001-04:00Wow, Crank, this is a discussion we've never had. ...Wow, Crank, this is a discussion we've never had.
